“Maggie's has shown me how to regain hope and determination whilst still allowing for the emotional reality of it all”

Welcome to Maggie's Aberdeen

The Elizabeth Montgomerie Foundation (EMF) and Maggie's are involved in an ambitious fundraising campaign to raise £3m to bring a Maggie's Centre to Foresterhill Hospital, Aberdeen for families affected by cancer across Grampian.

Aberdeen is Scotland’s third largest cancer treatment centre but is the only clinical centre in Scotland not supported by Maggie’s.

What will Maggie's do?

Maggie’s Aberdeen will support up to 40% of all new people diagnosed with cancer each year by the time the centre is 5 years old.

The centre will play an essential role: put simply, it aims to bring joy and instil hope, helping people not to lose the joy of living in the fear of dying.  Each Maggie's centre is distinctive and different, yet each offers the same informal, comfortable surroundings that make it easy for those dealing with the trauma of cancer to engage with our professional help and connect with others going through a similar experience.

It aims to be a place where people feel valued, safe and able to take their time as they deal with the isolation and despair of a cancer diagnosis.

Maggie's Chief Executive Laura Lee commented:  “Maggie’s is bringing something unique to Aberdeen, which is why we will slot in well with the other existing services here. We have an evidence based programme of support run by cancer support specialists and clinical psychologists; we will be located on the grounds of the hospital, just a stone’s throw away from where people are being treated for cancer; and we will have a uniquely designed building, providing a welcoming and inspiring atmosphere to visitors.

"As we have done in other regions, we will work closely with all other cancer support services, signposting our centre users to other services when necessary. We are proud to bring Maggie’s to Aberdeen and to be part of such a good support network for people affected by cancer across the region.”

A total of £3m is needed to create a sustainable centre.
