Maggie's Online Community
You can now join Maggie's Online Community where you can meet and chat with other people affected by cancer. Don't worry if you have never used a site like this before, just log on and Susan Ball, Maggie's Online Manager, will be there to answer your questions and help you to find your way around.
The idea of the online community is to give you the same experience as you would have walking into a Maggie's centre. There will be other people online who will understand what you are going through. You can talk (by that we mean write) about anything you want to from the best shortbread recipes to your deepest fears and concerns. Other members will join in with the conversations by writing back to you. It's a bit like email just log on and see.
As more and more members join you will always find someone who you can share your thoughts with. The site is very new and we are working hard to create something as special and necessary as our buildings. There may be one or two glitches along the way but as soon as you find one, tell us and we'll put it right.
Some of the services the online community will be offering:
The chance to join a group of similar minded people who will understand what you are going through. Just like in our centres.
The chance to find out about what events are going on around the country in support of Maggie's. Just like in our centres.
The chance to talk to a Maggie's Professional in private. Just like in our centres.
Where the online community is different is that you can join from the comfort of your own home. You can talk to someone at 2 am or 2 pm. You can be wearing your pyjama's and slippers and be wrapped up in bed. You don't need to go anywhere, you just need your computer or laptop.
You can create a 'blog', your own personal diary which you can update whenever you feel like it.
You will be able to keep your friends and family updated on how you are feeling and what stage your treatment is at.
You can send messages to other members of the Maggie's community.
It may feel a bit daunting at first but have a go. We're here to help you get started.
