“250,000 people are diagnosed with cancer every year”

Maggie's Cotswolds forms part of the Joy of Living campaign: we are working towards raising £3 million for this Centre which will be built at Cheltenham General Hospital.

Around 4,000 people are diagnosed with cancer in the Cotswolds each year, and the Maggie’s Centre which we plan for the grounds of Cheltenham General Hospital will be there for everyone affected by cancer in the Three Counties area of Gloucestershire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire, a population in excess of 1,100,000.

Sir Richard MacCormac CBE, a former President of the RIBA and one of Britain’s most distinguished architects, has created a beautiful design which sensitively converts and extends an existing Grade II listed building.  Dr Christine Facer is working with Sir Richard on the garden design.  The Centre is only two minutes walk from the Oncology Department at Cheltenham General and like all Maggie’s Centres will provide a haven away from the medical environment.

Some 35,000 people are living with cancer in the Cotswolds, not to mention the effects on their friends and family.  We need your support to help bring Maggie’s to the area.

Maggie’s Cotswolds will cost approximately £3 million.  For more information about supporting Maggie’s Cotswolds, please contact Christiane Dickens on Christiane.Dickens@maggiescentres.org

Planning permission has gone through for Sir Richard McCormac's design and Sir Richard answered questions on his design at an inspiring talk on iconic buildings and Maggie’s given by Maggie’s Founder Charles Jencks at the Cheltenham Literary Festival.

The local campaign is now half way to reaching the total needed to start building.
