Maggie’s Menus

Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres and The Scotsman are launching a fundraising campaign to encourage people in Edinburgh to dine out & raise money for Maggie’s. Your support is crucial to the success of this and we invite you to join the campaign.

9th October 2008: Dining out for Maggie’s

Maggie Keswick Jencks was keen to live life to the full despite her cancer.  She wanted people living with and affected by cancer to relish time spent with friends and family, enjoying food and relaxing is a great way to do this.   The Maggie’s Menus campaign will celebrate her legacy on the eve of her birthday in restaurants across Edinburgh and raise vital funds to run Maggie’s Edinburgh.

Participating restaurants are asked to provide a special set price menu of limited choice for lunch and dinner on Thursday 9th October and donate 50% of the price directly to Maggie’s.  Restaurants will retain the proceeds and profits from all bar sales.   If you would like your restaurant to participate or receive further information download and complete this registration of interest form.

Maggie’s is a vital part of the community it serves. It is hoped that some of the 18,000 visitors who have used the Centre and other supporters of Maggie’s will take the opportunity to fill participating restaurants.

All participating restaurants will receive
-    Support materials including menu cards (or the use of our logo for your own menus), campaign posters, donation cards and other Maggie’s literature
-    Publicity of your participation on The Scotsman website and a guaranteed listing in The Scotsman prior to the event
-     Possible inclusion in features, news coverage and editorial in The Scotsman prior to and after the campaign.

Although all visits to Maggie’s are free, each visit costs Maggie’s approximately £24 so a couple having dinner in your restaurant could fund at least one, if not more, visits to Maggie’s Edinburgh.

The Campaign

We are delighted to have the support of The Scotsman who have agreed to provide editorial coverage about restaurants and chefs taking part and run features on Centre-users and Maggie’s celebrity supporters and their favourite participating restaurants.

In the run-up to the campaign there will be a clickable link on the front page of The Scotsman’s website, taking people through to a special Maggie’s Menus page.  The Scotsman have also committed to publishing the details of every restaurant participating in the campaign in the preceding  week(s).

The campaign will launch in May with a series of features in The Scotsman.  This will include substantial information – interviews, restaurant profiles etc – on the first restaurants to sign up.

The second wave of promotional activity will commence approximately one month before the event, peaking with the publication of the details of all participating restaurants in the run up to the 9th.

We also anticipate great interest in this campaign in other media.

Maggie’s recognises that, at a time when there are numerous worthy causes calling for assistance, we would be fortunate to obtain your support for this campaign.  If you would be interested, either prior to joining or afterwards, in seeing the Centre you would be helping, we should be happy to arrange a visit; please contact Marion or Julia on 0131 537 2451 to arrange.
