Staff Information

Andrew Anderson
Centre Head, Maggie's Edinburgh
I trained as a Registered General Nurse at Queen Margaret College in Edinburgh and worked as an oncology nurse in the Edinburgh Cancer Centre for 10 years. I moved to Maggie's Edinburgh in 2000. I enjoy working in an inspiring place that focuses on supporting people in achieving their emotional wellbeing.
I've done Maggie's Monster challenge for the last 3 years and I'm looking forward to 2008!
Anne Foster
Benefits Adviser for Edinburgh & Fife
I understand that being diagnosed with cancer is hugely stressful and can be increased by the worry that wages could cease whilst day-to-day living expenses continue.
I have worked at Maggie’s for almost 3 years. Before this I worked for the Department of Work and Pensions. I had various roles such as benefits processor and adjudicator and, finally, visiting officer in the Pension Service.
I am married with 2 sons. I enjoy watching rugby, have 3 dogs and am currently studying French with the Open University.
Seonaid Green
Information and Support Specialist, Maggie's Edinburgh
I enjoy working with people, and helping them to explore and manage their thoughts and feelings at difficult times in their life. I love the multifaceted approach we take at Maggie's and the flexible way we try to meet individuals needs.
Before joining Maggie's in 2001 I worked for 11 years in the Edinburgh Cancer Centre as a Senior Therapy Radiographer and a Research Radiographer. I was involved in setting up a fast track palliative treatment service for radiotherapy patients.
I share my home with my husband, son and an assorted collection of dogs, cats and bees. We love growing and cooking our own fruit and veg. I am currently studying for a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy and Counselling.
Isabel Ryan
Information and Support Specialist, Maggie's Edinburgh
Maggie's embraces what I feel is really important – to offer people touched by cancer information, emotional and psychological support in a safe, comfortable and unhurried space.
After completing a degree in Social Policy and Administration I trained as a registered general nurse at Napier University. Since qualifying in 1997 I have enjoyed nursing in the specialised area of cancer care. I have nursed for 5 years in the Hospice setting and have worked as an oncology nurse in the Edinburgh Cancer Centre for 3 years. I moved to Maggie's in 2005.
I have always found working in the specialised area of cancer care immensely rewarding and feel it is a privilege to be able to offer support to people with cancer and their families.
Dr Elspeth Salter
Chartered Clinical Psychologist, Maggie's Edinburgh
I have always been impressed and intrigued by the factors that enable people to cope with serious life events. I feel entirely in tune with the accepting and normalising ethos of Maggie's, together with the promotion and encouragement of resilience in those with cancer and their families and friends.
I have an MA (Hons) Psychology from St Andrews University. I have worked in the NHS in various settings, most recently in NHS Fife Oncology and Palliative care/Older Adult Specialist work.
My previous work and training have given me insight into the value of the humane ways of working in Maggie's, complementing the services in the NHS. The warmth and comfort of Maggie's gives a sense of safety for those struggling to come to terms with their own challenge.
Laurent Haquin
L'art du Chi Teacher, Maggie's Edinburgh
'L'art du chi' method is rooted in the arts of Tai Chi Chuan and Qi Gong. It teaches how to integrate mind and body to awaken and cultivate our vitality (Chi in Chinese). This gentle yet powerful practice is entirely based on direct experience and does not involve any complicated theory or element of competition.

Kellie Anderson
Health Education/Nutrition Sessional Worker at Maggie's Edinburgh and Fife
Diet in relation to cancer is one of the best ways for people to be able to help themselves. It’s great to discuss with Maggie’s groups the best – and tastiest – ways to get through treatment, and beyond.
I have an MSc in Health Education and have worked as a health writer and a research associate at the University of Edinburgh.
I enjoy coming up with healthy new recipes for my family and the nutrition workshop lunches.
Trish Sully
Art Therapist, Maggie's Edinburgh & Fife

Marion Taylor
Community Fundraiser, Maggie's Edinburgh
Being able to speak to Centre users everyday about why they use the Centre and the benefit it gives them and being able to help by raising as much funds as I can for the Edinburgh Centre is the best motivation and reward I can think of.
For the last four years I worked for Cancer Research UK as Area Volunteer Manager covering Argyll and Bute, Stirlingshire and The Highlands – felt like half of Scotland at times!!! Just before I left I was looking after 20 committees and five events called Relay for Life. Before my life in charity I worked in various retails roles mainly in shoes which was fatal!
I enjoy spending time with my family especially my niece Ruby who is one and changing every time I see her. I love to socialise with my friends either with a glass of wine or good food! I also collect bookmarks - I started collecting when I was in Girl Guides and have carried on. I now have just under 1000...I promise I am no anorak!!
Julia McCombie
Community Fundraising Assistant, Maggie's Edinburgh
My Mother passed away from breast cancer when I was 18 and unfortunately she never had the opportunity to use the Centre. I know however that if she had been able to, our journey would have been a much easier and happier one.
I believe 100% that Maggie’s helps those who are affected by cancer to live their lives as normal as possible. A diagnosis of cancer is scary and confusing and being involved in helping to ease this time for others motivates me immensely.
I have been a volunteer for Cancer Research UK and organised many fundraising events in my spare time.
I love to laugh! In my spare time, I enjoy going to the gym and doing martial arts as well as spending time with friends with (preferably a large!) glass of wine! I also adore travelling and I am off soon to Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam.
