Waterperry Gardens are delighted to announce they've chosen Maggie's Oxford as their charity of the year.

Staff at the beautiful tourist attraction and plant centre have pledged to raise awareness about the work of Maggie's and help boost funds needed to build the new Oxford Centre.

Waterperry's Horticultural Manager Rob Jacobs hopes the new relationship will spread the word about the fantastic work done by staff at the temporary Maggie's Centre.  He's also keen to offer people who use the Centre the chance to make the most of Waterperry's beautiful, theraputic ornamental gardens in the future so watch this space.

  • Become an Active Friend of Maggie's Oxford

Active Friends are volunteers who form a group that represent Maggie’s in their home area and help to raise money in local communities.

Groups of Active Friends can have between 5 to 20 members, depending on the size of the area covered. To get involved you don’t need experience – you just need good organisational skills, to enjoy bringing people together and a passion to improve cancer support in Oxfordshire.

You will work closely with the Maggie’s staff to identify and approach people in your area who may enjoy being part of the Active Friends Group.  Maggie’s will support you in all your efforts.

Active Friends set a fundraising target each year. There is a huge variety of activities you can be involved with, so it’s up to each group to decide what would be most fitting and to delegate responsibilities within the group.  Activities can include:

    •    Holding one or more annual Active Friends local events; perhaps a coffee morning, a book sale, a fashion show, a ball – the possibilities are endless.
    •    Ensuring all shops in your area are offered a collection tin for Maggie’s and banking the money on a regular basis.
    •    Attending cheque presentations and functions on behalf of Maggie’s.
    •    Selling raffle tickets.
    •    Putting up Maggie’s posters in local areas and distributing information to Doctors surgeries, libraries, etc.

Please contact Sandy Briscoe if you would like to become an Active Friend for Maggie’s Oxford on 01865 881356 or 07920 583798 or e-mailing sandy@maggiescentres.org
