Debbie Horrigan
Centre Head, Maggie's South West Wales
I jumped at the opportunity to join the project board to develop the Maggie’s Centre here as the ethos is so akin to my belief of how people affected by cancer should be treated. I want the people of South West Wales to have the means to enhance the care they receive and make the cancer journey easier and more endurable.
I qualified as a Nurse in April 1982 and have worked in general surgery, oncology and palliative care. I have also worked for Macmillan as a Palliative Care Community Nurse and Clinical Nurse Specialist in Cancer Genetics.
Dr Meryl James
Clinical Psychologist, Maggie's South West Wales: This post is funded by the Big Lottery Fund
Working at Maggie's enables me to use my clinical and academic experience in a pleasant environment, providing psychological and emotional support to people living with cancer.
I previously worked in adult mental health services including acute psychiatry. Before clinical psychology training I did a PhD regarding the psychological, emotional and social effects of facial deformity which included head and neck cancer. I have worked with people coping with adjustment issues in physical health, including neurological condtions.
I love the outdoors and have spent a lot of time travelling, camping and hiking up mountains. I love the sea and am learning to sail.
