Would you like to be an Active Friend of Maggie's?
Active friends are groups of remarkable people who get together to raise money for their local Maggie’s Centre.
They make sure that as many people as possible get to hear about Maggie’s and the support it offers to anyone affected in anyway by cancer.
They help to keep us going.
Active Friends are people who:
• Continuously support their Maggie’s Centre
• Volunteer time and money
• Are passionate about Maggie’s
• Act as Maggie’s Ambassadors in a geographical area
• Organise and belong to an independently run group supporting Maggie’s
with the backing of their Community Fundraising Co-ordinator
Examples of what Active Friends have done
Emma from Fulham, visited Maggie’s London on the first day it opened. Her dad had recently been through bowel cancer and she decided that she wanted to do something to support her local Maggie’s Centre.
Emma got together a group of her friends and they formed an Active Friends group. The Fulham Active Friends Group organised their first event in December 2008. They held a Christmas Fair in the London centre. They had wonderful stalls selling christmas gifts, delicious food items and offered mulled wine to the guests. From the Christmas Fair the group raised £4,900 for the London Centre.
As the Fulham Group were all young mums, they decided that their next event would be something fun for children. They organised a Teddy Bear’s Picnic in September 2009 at Fulham Palace. It was a fabulous day with 720 guests enjoying the sunshine and fun and games in the park.
