People's Postcode Lottery
Maggie’s is one of People’s Postcode Lottery’s (PPL) official charities.

PPL, Scotland’s first ever charity lottery, was launched at the end of 2007, with the aim of raising funds for Scottish charities in the sectors of children, health and the protection of nature and the environment, whilst also helping to improve community spirit.
Maggie’s were delighted to find out at the end of 2007 that they had been selected as one of the PPL’s official three charities. CHILDREN 1ST and Scottish Wildlife Trust were also selected.
The first draw of the PPL took place on January 4th 2008 to great success, with more and more people continuing to sign up for the subscription based £2 a week tickets.
A minimum of 20 per cent of all money raised from ticket sales – that could be as much as half a million pounds each by the end of 2008 – goes directly to the three charities. By July 2008, the PPL had already presented Maggie’s with a whopping £170,000. This astounding sum of money is the equivalent to the running costs for one Maggie's Centre over a period of six months.
The PPL is subscription based with players purchasing a £2 ticket. Each ticket in the winning postcode receives a share of the £25,000 Street Prize, with a further £5,000 being split between ticket holders in the Postcode Sector. TV presenter Angus Purden hosts a street party for the winning postcode.
People’s Postcode Lottery Charity and Communications Manager, Claire Stewart, said:
“People’s Postcode Lottery is thrilled to be working alongside Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. We believe that, together, our commitment can help to make a huge difference to the lives and environment of thousands of Scots. We are proud that the money we have donated so far would cover the costs of a centre for 6 months. As the only lottery where all funds raised for charity in Scotland, stay in Scotland, we see our partnership as a fantastic opportunity to make a significant contribution to Maggie’s – undoubtedly one of Scotland’s most worthwhile causes.
The TV quiz show, hosted by Carol Smilie, Postcode Challenge, is sponsored by the PPL and you can watch it on Mondays at 8pm on STV.
Maggie's have received another generous donation from People's Postcode Lottery in October 2008.
By donating over £300,000 the PPL players have now raised enough money to fund a Maggie's Centre in Scotland for an entire year. This is a huge achievement and Maggie's Centres would like to thank everyone who has signed up to play People's Postcode Lottery in Scotland.
