“we came back with £2,500 for Maggie’s and managed to raise our awareness by being on a primetime quiz show. We would like to thank the Postcode Challenge for inviting us to be on the show and the PPL for their continued support of Maggie’s”

Maggie's team appear on charity special of TV gameshow, The Postcode Challenge

Maggie's Cancer Caring Centres entered a team of staff members onto the popular STV show, The Postcode Challenge, with their team fronted by comedian Ford Kiernan.

The Postcode Challenge, which is sponsored by the People's Postcode Lottery, held two special charity editions of the show.

Maggie's appeared on the first of these shows, competing against Cystic Fibrosis Trust UK, Yorkhill Children's Foundation and The Lighthouse Foundation, for a chance to play for the top prize of £25,000.

The programme, which is hosted by Carol Smilie, takes the form of a wide-ranging general knowledge quiz, with multiple choice questions covering areas as wide as history, music, natural sciences, environment and lifestyle.

Fronted by TV's Still Game creator and star, Ford Kiernan, Maggie's team performed well in early rounds, but were unfortunately knocked out before the final.

However, the team did not go home empty handed, with the Postcode Challenge donating £1,000 to Maggie's.  In a generous move, Ford waived his appearance fee and asked for it to also be given to Maggie's, taking their prize money up to £2,500.

The Maggie’s team, chosen for their wide range of general knowledge,  consisted of:  George Bushell, Events Manager, Sharon Campbell-Martin, Events Manager, Grant Yuill, Corporate Partnerships Assistant, Elley Martin, Donor Development Manager and Tricia Williams, Press Co-ordinator.

Tricia Williams said: “We all had a fabulous day.  It was great fun taking part and especially since we had Ford as our team captain, as he is hilarious.  We all tired our hardest but in the end our fingers weren’t fast enough on the buzzers.  But we came back with £2,500 for Maggie’s and managed to raise our awareness by being on a primetime quiz show.  We would like to thank the Postcode Challenge for inviting us to be on the show and the PPL for their continued support of Maggie’s.”

Maggie’s is one of three official PPL charities.  Scotland’s first charity lottery raised over £90,000 within the first five months for Maggie’s.  The Postcode Challenge promotes the PPL and is screened at 8pm on STV.
