Maggie's Moonwalkers make strides towards new services
Maggie’s Moonwalkers strode out alongside 12,000 other people on Saturday evening to take part in Moonwalk Edinburgh 2008

Donning trainers and sparkly designed tee-shirts, the team of 34 Maggie’s Moonwalkers (affectionately known as The Wunderburdz) were made up of centre users from Maggie’s Glasgow, plus staff and friends from Maggie’s Glasgow, Maggie’s Swansea and Maggie’s London.
The Wunderburdz enjoyed taking in the sites of Edinburgh – some of which were glowing pink for the evening – and watching the sunrise, as they completed their chosen challenges of half moon (13.1 miles) or full moon (26.2 miles).
A substantial sum of money raised from the event will go towards Maggie’s, following the generous decision by Walk the Walk, organisers of Moonwalk, to pledge £2.1million to Maggie’s.
The Wunderburdz had a special role on the evening, as they were invited onto the stage by Nina Barough, founder of Walk the Walk, to discuss how the vital money raised would help thousands of people with cancer across the country.
Maggie’s Glasgow Centre Head, Maureen Fee, made a moving speech and thanked the participants for their determination in taking part in such a challenging and inspiring event. Maureen discussed the fact that the money raised would help build a second centre in Glasgow, located next to the Beatson Oncology Unit at Gartnavel Hospital, which will hugely boost the cancer care support available for people across the West of Scotland – an area which has some of the highest levels of cancer in the country.
Furthermore, some of the money raised is going towards an innovative pilot outreach programme that Maggie’s is offering to people who live in the remote and rural areas of the islands, Highlands and Moray.
