Who Gives a Fork

“As someone who has got a lot out of Maggie’s nutrition class I am taking a keen interest in this campaign that involves so many fantastic restaurants and a great variety of food!”

Who Gives a Fork? gets support from 5pm.co.uk

Maggie’s is always looking to introduce new ideas to our fundraising and awareness raising portfolio, so we are delighted to be working with the Glasgow Restaurant Association with fantastic support from 5pm.co.uk in an exciting project called Who Gives A Fork?

Set up by Anthea Jackson and Ryan James, Who Gives A Fork was launched by Maggie’s patron Kirsty Wark at the end of 2010. Since then it has started to kick on with GRA member restaurants around Glasgow putting on their own fundraising nights; including Curry Karaoke, a Mad Hatters Tea Party with cocktails in teapots at The Blind Pig, a Mad Men theme night at the Butchershop Bar and Grill, a Highlanders banquet at MacSorley’s and a band night at Maggie Mays. Who Gives A Fork is certainly putting the FUN into FUNdraising.

The month of May also saw a dinearound offer through the fantastic 5pm.co.uk, with restaurants offering deals from £15.95 to raise funds and awareness for Maggie's. This resulted in over £5,500 in donations to Maggie’s and at the start of June Who Gives A Fork has raised over £30,000 and with many more events still to take place and with no shortage of ideas and energy, who knows what the total will be come December.

Maggie’s would like to thank Anthea, Ryan, 5pm.co.uk, all of the participating restaurants and their staff and everyone who has got involved to date.

Jim McPherson who is using Maggie’s Glasgow Centre has been actively involved in the campaign; speaking at a launch at the centre and helping with publicity photos.

Jim said: ‘2011 is a massive year for Maggie’s in Glasgow as they are set to open a second centre at Gartnavel meaning that they can help even more people like me to live with, through and beyond cancer. This also means that they need to raise even more funds to do so. As someone who has got a lot out of Maggie’s nutrition class I am taking a keen interest in this campaign that involves so many fantastic restaurants and a great variety of food! Seriously though, I visit Maggie’s every week and I know how much support they provide to people, thanks to the GRA and everyone involved with Who Gives A Fork to date. Here’s to the next £30,000!’

Keep up to date with the latest on events at restaurants throughout the city through the Who Gives A Fork Facebook page.
