Builders were left blushing when a six foot tall male can-can dancer did some high kicks at the site of the new Maggie’s Centre
Maggie’s Director of Fundraising, Glen Fendley, visited the Maggie’s Gartnavel site today kitted out head to toe in his MoonWalk Edinburgh outfit – Moulin Rouge is the theme of this year’s event.
Donning feathers, a can-can skirt and bra, Glen’s message for the day was, ‘if I cancan do it so cancan you!’
Glen is set to join thousands of women and men for the 26mile challenge around the capital at midnight on June 11, which is organised by grant making charity, Walk the Walk.
MoonWalkers have generously raised £2.6million to fund Maggie’s second Centre in Glasgow, which will open in Autumn of this year, bringing much needed extra support to the west coast of Scotland’s cancer population. Glen was at the site to see the progress on the building and to encourage people to sign up for the event which has made Maggie’s Gartnavel possible.
Glen said: “I was approaching this marathon length MoonWalk Edinburgh event with trepidation because of the outfit, but after the reaction I got from the builders at the Gartnavel site, I am feeling full of confidence with my outfit. My mother, the late and wonderful Gloria Fendley, died of cancer three years before I started here at Maggie's. She would have loved the centre and been a regular at the kitchen table in London which is a stone throw from where she lived. She is my motivation for this challenge and for my work at Maggie's.”
