Maggie’s Centres to benefit from innovative ‘Give a Book’ scheme
A new scheme to enable people to give a book to charity has been set up, and Maggie’s Centres are one of the charities to benefit.
The pilot scheme, Give a Book, was set up in memory of writer and playwright Simon Gray who loved to read and to share this passion for books. It is run as a non-profit organisation and facilitates the gift of books to selected charities through their website www.giveabook.org.uk.
Donors can choose from a list of books that Simon Gray wrote about; adapted for stage or screen; received as gifts; or that he had a particular connection with. The website also offer a ‘Book of the Month’ chosen by a special guest.
Donations are received through their website or by post and then used to purchase books from the Give a Book list at cost price from their partner, Daunt Books. These books are each given a personalised boilerplate and sent to the selected charities.
Every £5.00 donation to Give a Book buys and distributes a book to someone who, for differing reasons, might need one and Maggie’s Centres are one of the charities you can choose to donate a book to.
