Glasgow Night Hike sees 400 participants take a night-time tour round the city for Maggie's

Kaye Adams set off 400 walkers on Maggie’s Glasgow Night Hike, with the stunning backdrop of the new Riverside Transport Museum last Friday, 22 July.

Maggie’s Glasgow Night Hikers got in the mood for an incredible night out for an incredible cause at an entertainment filled opening party at the Riverside Transport Museum before setting off on a ten-mile ‘festival on foot’ hike around Glasgow.

The 400 participants, who are raising money for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres, enjoyed entertainment from Fusion, who were semi-finalists at Britain’s Got Talent and The Box, who were finalists at Sky One’s Got to Dance at the opening party at the newly opened Riverside Museum.

Participants gained access to some of Glasgow’s most culturally and architecturally intriguing buildings with entertainment in each venue: The Briggait, with 40s/50s inspired dance troupe, Kennedy Cupcakes; a tour of the delights of the Merchant City Festival; The Glasgow Art Club, where there was a special one-off exhibition of Mary McCartney Portraits of Maggie’s Centres users; Cottiers newly refurbished theatre, with a string quartet; before finishing at Maggie’s for tea and cakes.

Maggie’s Event Manager, Mhairi Pearson, said: “What a fabulous night out was had by all! Glasgow is such a fabulous city, brimming with great architecture and culture, with our night hike route very much reflecting that. Thanks to all the participants for supporting Maggie’s and fundraising to help us to continue to offer free emotional and practical support to people facing the devastating consequences of cancer.”

Speaking at the opening party, Kaye Adams, said: “What a great atmosphere. Everyone turned out full of energy and keen to have a good old time and support Maggie’s.”
