Maggie’s unveiled as the charity partner of Decorex International 2011

Design lovers come together to look at Cherished Places from Sunday 25 to Wednesday 28 September 2011 at the Royal Hospital Chelsea in London

The annual Decorex International interior design show invites the design community to view the latest exquisite trends and be inspired by pioneering design. This year's theme is 'Cherished Places'. Decorex International is now in its 34th year and prides itself as the interior design show for professionals. Every year the exhibition offers up a superb collection of supplies and designs as well as an inspirational array of speakers and features.

Maggie’s was chosen as the charity partner because of our understanding of how to use design and environment to create cherished places. Maggie's Centres are for anyone affected by cancer, welcoming to people whenever they need to visit. Some of the world’s leading architects have designed Maggie’s Centres as places that can provide a sanctuary away from a busy hospital, complemented by the emotional and psychological support offered by centre staff.

Laura Lee, chief executive of Maggie's said: “We are really pleased to have been chosen by Decorex as a charity partner, and are looking forward to playing a part in the event itself.

“This is a perfect partnership because for Maggie’s the environment created within our centres is a core element of the care that we provide within them. Design makes a huge impact on the people affected by cancer who come in for help. Our buildings have open, light spaces where groups of people can talk and share their experiences together; along with cosy, private spaces were they can speak with our staff about their concerns, or have a quiet moment with a cup of tea after a hospital appointment.”

As a part of this year's partnership Decorex International will host an exclusive seminar. Piers Gough CBE, the acclaimed architect behind a new Maggie's Centre under construction in Nottingham, and Nicholas Chandler from Paul Smith, who is working on the centre's interior design, are set to speak at the event on Monday 26 September. Their seminar will look at the process of designing and furnishing the new centre.
