Maggie's opens new centre in Nottingham
Architect Piers Gough and fashion designer Sir Paul Smith are joined by Sarah Brown and actress Hermione Norris to open Maggie's Nottingham
Maggie's is delighted to have opened a new centre next to the Breast Institute at Nottingham City Hospital.
Maggie's Nottingham will serve the Mid Trent Cancer Network, which covers the populations of Nottingham, North Nottinghamshire and Lincolnshire - approximately 1.3 million people. Annually, within this area, there are approximately 4,000 new cases of cancer a year which Maggie's Nottingham will be able to support.
To find out more about the centre from Piers Gough, Sir Paul Smith and Centre Head Mandy McMahan please watch the short video below (courtesy of Living Projects).
The new centre has been designed by Piers Gough CBE, a Founding Partner at CZWG Architects. His design has created an a spacious and almost symmetrical design across multiple floors. Elevated off the ground, the building features multiple balconies, a kitchen and sitting rooms. The exterior is covered with bright green glazed ceramic tiles, designed to attract visitors.
Inside the centre has been carefully designed by Nottingham-born fashion designer Sir Paul Smith. His design features functional and visually intriguing elements of furniture designed to re-enforce the centres homely feel and encourage conversation.
To mark the opening Piers Gough and Sir Paul Smith were joined by Sarah Brown, patron of Maggie's Joy of Living campaign and actress Hermione Norris, who started Maggie's London Night Hike earlier this year. The pair were also set to be joined by members of the local community who have been working hard together to raise the £3 million needed to open the centre and run it for the first year.
