Maggie's launch Monster Bike & Hike with Monster Conga
Maggie's launched their largest annual fundraising event in Scotland with a Monster Conga around George Square at lunchtime on Friday January 30th.

Jenni Keenan Green, Libby McArthur and Sally Howitt from BBC Scotland's River City braved the cold along, with the Scottish Rockettes cheerleaders, supporters from Dundas and Wilson, Strathclyde Students Union, Ernst and Young, TJ Hughes and Maggie's own resident Monster.
Cheerleaders put down their pom poms, students put down their books and workers stepped away from their desks to enjoy the lunchtime conga and festival atmosphere in the busy Square, while Maggie’s supporters encouraged passer-bys and tourists to join in the fun.
Led by a Loch Ness monster, the conga line kick started the campaign to get participants to sign up for Maggie’s biggest fundraising event of the year – the Monster Bike and Hike, which takes place along the Great Glen Way on the bank holiday weekend of May 2-3.
Monster Bike and Hike is the ultimate 24-hour team building challenge, with participants completing a 30-mile cycle and then choosing to hike 8 (bronze), 22 (silver) or 43-miles (gold). The event takes in some of Scotland’s most awe inspiring scenery, starting under the shadow of Ben Nevis in Fort William, along the Caledonian Canal and the Great Glen Way offering views of Loch Ness en route to Inverness. This is the sixth ever Monster Bike and Hike with a fabulous £2.5million raised from the event over the past five years.
Maggie’s Event Manager, Claire Noel said: “Maggie’s Monster conga was a great opportunity for people to banish those January blues and have a little lunchtime fun while helping Maggie’s Centres raise awareness for Monster Bike and Hike, an event that is crucial to the running and development of our centres. A conga line may not be as adventurous a challenge as Monster Bike and Hike but, like all Maggie’s events, we made sure it was great fun. Monster Bike and Hike is a truly exhilarating event and it is for people of all fitness levels as you can choose whether to go to bronze, silver or gold finishes. So go on, sign up now and we’ll pull out all the stops to make sure you have an amazing bank holiday weekend.”
Hilda McGregor, age 55, took part in the 2008 Monster Bike and Hike to thank Maggie’s for supporting her friend through a terminal cancer diagnosis. Hilda said: “Signing up for Maggie’s Monster Bike and Hike resulted in many things – pride, pleasure, personal achievement - improved mental and physical agility, weight loss and a huge sum raised for Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres. I’m not an athlete – just a focused and determined 55 year old inspired by a friend fighting cancer with support from Maggie’s. I would recommend Monster to anyone.”
