Maggie's Edinburgh at night
Princess Bride charity screening poster

“The Princess Bride is one of my favourite films but I’ve never had the chance to see it at the cinema and decided it would be a great way to raise money for Maggie’s Edinburgh, while celebrating my 6-year all-clear at the same time!”

Izzie Finlayson, Maggie's volunteer

Not your basic, average, everyday, ordinary, run of the mill, ho hum fairytale!

Maggie’s and Cineworld have joined together to bring the magical and uplifting 80s film ‘The Princess Bride’ back to the big screen on Monday 5 October from 6.15pm at Cineworld, Fountainpark.

For one night only you have the chance to revisit your childhood and watch this classic fairytale which has it all - from Giants and Villains to Heroes and True love starring Robin Wright Penn, Cary Elwes, Mandy Patinkin, Billy Crystal and Peter Falk, and directed by Rob Reiner.

Maggie’s volunteer and event organiser Izzie Finlayson first visited Maggie’s Edinburgh in 2003 when she was diagnosed with Hodgkins Disease.  She says “The Princess Bride is one of my favourite films but I’ve never had the chance to see it at the cinema and decided it would be a great way to raise money for Maggie’s Edinburgh, while celebrating my 6-year all-clear at the same time!”

“Cineworld Edinburgh has been a fantastic support and I am delighted we have been able to get the film on the big screen and support the Centre in this way.”

This is not the first time Izzie has been involved in fundraising for the centre. She climbed Ben Lomond last year for Maggie’s along with her friend Doug who decided to climb all 284 munros within a year in support of their friend Jill who sadly passed away before Doug finished the challenge. They both came on board to mark the wonderful support Jill and her family received at Maggie’s.

Mark Smith, Cineworld Edinburgh Manager said: "Obviously we are delighted to be involved, especially for such a good cause – and we hope the event is a big success."

Maggie’s Edinburgh is based at the Western General Hospital and sees over 19,000 visitors in a year - it costs over £350,000 to keep this Centre running and we rely completely on public donations and events such as Izzie’s.

Relive your youth or bring along the kids to see this fantastic classic PG film and you can make a difference too.  If you would like more information or would like to buy tickets please call Marion at Maggie’s Edinburgh on 0131 537 3135.  Advance tickets sales only and tickets cost £10 (£6 for children under 12). Spaces are limited so don’t delay!

If you come along on the night you might even be in with a chance to win a prize! Five lucky ticket holders will also win a prize bundle on the night of the event including The Princess Bride book and Special Edition DVD.
