Gala Opera in aid of Maggie’s Cotswolds

Maggie’s Cancer Caring Centres is hosting a gala staging of Mozart’s Cosi Fan Tutte, at Distillery Farm, Wiltshire, on Friday 12th and Saturday 13th June, 2009.

All proceeds from the sumptuous event will go towards construction of a new Maggie’s Centre in Cheltenham. Providing a rare opportunity to see world-class performers Opera A La Carte, it will take place in the gorgeous surroundings of Distillery Farm.

Maggie’s provides emotional support, stress reducing strategies and advice to cancer patients in a relaxed and caring environment. Support is tailored to the needs of each individual, and in every case is completely free of charge. As a registered charity which receives no statutory funding, the generosity of the general public is essential to raising vital funds. The new centre will be the seventh in the United Kingdom, and hopes to open its doors to visitors in 2010.

Described as ‘even better than Glyndebourne’, Opera A La Carte is well established as one of the United Kingdom’s most exciting and original chamber opera companies. The company prides itself on its widespread appeal, flair and enthusiasm. Here, Mozart’s classic comic work is transported to the early 1920s, as two men endeavour to test the faithfulness of their respective sweethearts. Cue large moustaches, ‘girl power’ and a delightful comedy of errors as hilarity ensues. As anyone who has previously attended a Maggie’s event will attest, such occasions invariably provide an unforgettable experience, with the added bonus of having made a real difference to a fantastic cause.

The production will be staged in the round, ensuring an intimate atmosphere and excellent views. This does mean that only 200 seats are available, so early application is advised! Prices start at £35 for under 18s, £50 for adults or, for special allocated seating in Rows 1 and 2, £65. A delicious dinner comprising two courses and wine will be served at a cost of £45 during the interval. Alternatively, guests are welcome to bring their own picnics, tables and drinks, which can be enjoyed in the garden from 6:15 p.m.  The performance starts at 7:15 pm prompt, and runs for 2 ½ hours with an interval at 9 pm.  It is advisable to set up picnics in the garden before 7pm.
