All our cancer support specialists have expert knowledge about cancer and treatment, and many are NHS-trained.

I look after the running of the centre and make sure my team and I are providing the best possible cancer support.

I have over 20 years’ experience in cancer care initially as an oncology nurse working in the NHS and then in support roles within the charity sector. I have worked within medical oncology and breast cancer support before joining Maggie’s in 2014.

I’m here to listen, to help you talk things over and to find the information and support that’s right for you and your family.

I have worked in Maggie’s as a qualified Counselling Psychologist for over 12 years.  I can help if things are getting on top of you, if you're scared, worried or feeling down.

We can talk about things in a safe and supportive space, and you can see me in private, in a group or with your family.

Kathryn Hughes

Cancer Support Specialist

I have a broad background in surgical, medical and community nursing, providing care to people impacted by a range of different cancer diagnoses. I’ve also volunteered and worked in the charity sector providing cancer support to adults, children and families for many years.

I give one-to-one information and support, and I can help to guide you through the parts of our programme that can provide the most appropriate support to you. I also run many of our support groups, workshops and courses.

My nursing background is in many different cancers including the haematological field. I joined the Maggies team 12 years ago using my 35 years of cancer caring experience to match our programme to the needs of our centre users.

My background is as a palliative care nurse specialist, working in both the hospice and the community for 16 years before joining the Maggie’s team in 2021.

I have worked for 13 years delivering benefits advice and supporting people to maximise their income.  I have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of the welfare, disability rights and social security system.  I can help you to understand what you’re entitled to, help you to fill out all the necessary forms, support you through the application process and offer appeal support if required.

Stress & Relaxation Therapist

I run a variety of classes and courses, including relaxation, mindful movement and Managing Stress.  I also provide one-to-one  support and will guide you to understand more about the impact of stress and ways to manage stress and stressors in a more helpful way.

Centre Fundraising Manager

I make sure we raise enough money to keep our doors open for people with cancer.

I look after corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, fundraising events and much more.

Designed for you

Built in 2011, our striking centre is nestled among the woodland in the grounds of Gartnavel General Hospital. It is formed as a ring around a landscaped internal courtyard, with rooms that flow into one another while still remaining separate – perfect for the delivery of our cancer support.
