Laura Lee

Chief Executive

I have led Maggie's since the inception of Maggie Keswick Jencks Cancer Caring Centres Trust in 1998 and have overseen the development of 17 Maggie’s Centres across the UK, online and abroad.

I was working as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in the Breast Unit at the Western General Hospital in Edinburgh in 1991, when I first met Maggie and Charles Jencks. When they came to the clinic they would be armed with masses of information and articles - they believed that more could be done.

Maggie had a vision of a place that would allow you to be an informed participant in your medical treatment, offering stress-reducing strategies, psychological support and the opportunity to meet other people in similar circumstances in a relaxed domestic atmosphere. She immersed herself in the plans to create the Centre; the day before she died we sat together on her bed surrounded by papers and designs.

I have met so many extraordinary people in our Centres: they are my inspiration and the driving force behind all that we do at Maggie’s.

Sarah Beard

Business Development Director

I was first introduced to Maggie's when I worked as Assistant Divisional General Manager for Cancer and Tertiary Services at Swansea NHS Trust. I saw Maggie's as the most real and genuine example of an organisation that puts the needs of those using the service at the very heart of its operation. Following meeting Laura Lee and Andrew Anderson and a trip to Maggie's Dundee, I was hooked!

I work with senior NHS clinical and managerial teams in the hospitals we have or are planning to develop a Maggie’s Centre. I also lead Maggie's international development, identifying how and where Maggie's should grow outside the UK. Working closely with all of my Executive colleagues and campaign managers I am responsible for the successful running and delivery of the fundraising campaigns for each new Centre.

Giving people the space and time to think about their cancer experience and the impact it's having on their lives, in an environment that is inspiring and uplifting, is a gift. The clinical teams that work within Maggie's are exceptional and provide genuinely unique and essential support to all those that visit.

I want to make sure that Maggie's is at every major NHS cancer centre within the UK, and beyond.

Sharon O'Loan

Director of Fundraising and Development

My role is to ensure that we create opportunities for each and every individual donor, company, partner, charitable trust or volunteer to have an incredible and rewarding experience supporting visitors to Maggie’s.

The best thing about my job is undoubtedly, the magic and energy that is created when we bring together inspirational individuals who care passionately about improving cancer support.

Maggie’s innovative and pioneering approach is so different to anything else I’ve seen. Seeing the powerful and immediate benefit to patients and carers who visit our Centres each day takes my breath away. I love the way that each visitor can use the Centres in a way that is meaningful and personal for them.

I am determined that everyone who needs Maggie’s, whenever that may be, knows where we are and how Maggie’s can help.

Chief Operating Officer

I am responsible for the delivery and strategic development of Maggie’s Centre operations and for ensuring we provide a high quality, evidence-based core programme of cancer support. This includes the running of Maggie's established and interim Centres; development/delivery of our programme of cancer support; quality assurance and overseeing Maggie's research portfolio.

I am also responsible for Maggie’s Staff and Resources, IT, Data and Property functions all of which are vital to deliver Maggie’s unique cancer care programme.

Before Maggie’s I worked in the NHS and I have seen first-hand how important it is that everyone has access to the right support tailored to their own individual needs.

My role is about ensuring that every person who walks into a Maggie's Centre receives the best quality support possible – the right support at the right time.

I want to make sure that everyone who visits Maggie's feels valued and leaves feeling a little more in control of their lives.

Allison Wood

Finance Director

I am responsible for the current and future financial well-being of Maggie’s.  This includes responsibility for setting the financial strategy, developing financial plans, setting and monitoring budgets and providing forecasts of income, expenditure, reserves and cash.

My team also produces the annual accounts and oversees the financial systems and procedures to ensure we meet legal and audit requirements.

In my time here Maggie’s has grown considerably so my job is continually changing and adapting.

Maggie’s has such ambitious plans for growth and I wanted to be part of the team to make that happen so more people can access our unique support.

Katie Tait

PR Director

As PR Director at Maggie’s, my main focus is to advance our organisation’s profile in the media so that we can increase awareness and income both nationally and internationally. I work with other members of the Executive Team and our PR Team to ensure that we develop and implement our PR strategy in the most effective way.

I am passionate about increasing awareness of the evidence-based programme of support that is on offer in our Centres amongst our key constituent audiences, including those affected by cancer, our new and existing donors, healthcare professionals and the general public.

I am proud to be a part of an organisation that treats people as individuals at a time when they can feel like they are losing their identity and I want to ensure that my contribution to Maggie’s allows us to reach more people with cancer, their families and friends and helps them to access this support when they need it most.
