A new necklace designed for Maggie’s by Claudia Bradby Jewellery encourages people to find the joy in everyday life.
Inspired by Maggie’s co-founder Maggie Keswick Jencks who said ‘above all what matters is not to lose the joy in living in the fear of dying’, the new necklace features a rhodium coated sterling silver chain and ‘joy’ pendant with a freshwater cultured pearl in the loop of the ‘Y’.
Cancer is a cause close to Claudia Bradby Jewellery’s heart as currently every person in her office has had close friends or families with cancer. Claudia herself has a personal experience with cancer as four years ago her mother-in-law, Sally, died from secondary cancer after four years of treatment, having huge impact on her family.
Claudia Bradby, designer, said:
“I was deeply moved by Maggie’s personal journey and the phrase that stuck with me was her comment about ‘not losing the joy in living with the fear of dying’. Even without taking a serious illness into consideration, I felt this struck to the very heart of life and that was the inspiration for the ‘Joy’ necklace. It is a design that can be worn everyday with the sentiment of enjoying every day.
I particularly admire the approach of Maggie’s that there is no ‘right way’ - the openness and support that is practical, all wrapped up in inspiring architecture combines to create very special places. As a free Centre, it has at its core a very generous spirit, which you can feel in every brick and breath.
As Maggie said, you can’t do these things on your own – and the journey more often than not can be bewildering at best, terrifying at worst. Maggie’s provides an oasis where you can draw breath and get incredible help on every level.”
Laura Lee, Chief Executive of Maggie’s commented:
“It is always an honour to be chosen as a charity partner but especially so for such a beautiful necklace with a message so close to the heart of Maggie’s.
The proceeds from the necklace will go towards helping us offer support and practical advice to people with cancer as well as their families and friends in our Centres across the UK and we would like to thank Claudia and her team for their support.”
The ‘Joy’ necklace is available to buy online now on the Claudia Bradby Jewellery website. Each necklace costs £42, with £15 going directly to Maggie’s.
