Cancer services and the NHS

This section includes information about NHS services for people with cancer and general NHS services as well as information about what you should expect from the services you receive and where you can find out more.

Key Points

Cancer diagnosis, treatment and care can be provided in several different places. These include your GP’s surgery, district hospitals, larger specialist hospitals, hospices and your own home. It is now recommended that specialist cancer teams treat cancer patients.

You should be given information about:

  • the hospital or hospitals where you will be treated
  • your healthcare team
  • the proposed treatment and care plan; and where to get more information, help and support.
