About cancer

Questions you may like to ask

It is natural to feel anxious about a possible or confirmed cancer diagnosis, and you may feel overwhelmed at times. These feelings generally feel less troublesome, once the appointments, tests and results have been discussed, and a treatment plan put forward.

Questions that other people with cancer have suggested may be helpful to ask about cancer services are listed below:

  • Why are you referring me to a specialist?
  • Will I be treated at different hospitals? If so what will be done and where?
  • Is the hospital a specialist cancer unit or centre, with specialists in my type of cancer and treatment?
  • Who will give me the results and when?
  • Is it possible to get a second opinion?
  • When will my treatment start?
