Lower gastrointestinal cancers

These are cancers that affect the lower part of the digestive system and includes the large bowel (colon) and the back passage ( cancer of the rectum/rectal cancer), the small bowel and the appendix. 

The term 'bowel cancer' usually refers to cancer of the large bowel The upper part of the bowel is narrower and is called the small bowel.  Small bowel cancer is much less common.
