Give a gift in your Will to Maggie's

Every single gift is vital to Maggie’s, and means that years from now people with cancer can access unconditional support, reassurance and help during their darkest days.

By leaving a gift in your Will you will help to ensure that we continue to be here for people affected by cancer when they need us most. Gill, a regular visitor to Maggie's Centres, chose to do so - you can read her story here.

After you have taken care of your family and friends, please consider remembering Maggie’s in your Will and create a lasting legacy to help make cancer manageable.

Please get in touch with your nearest Centre to find out more about our Free Wills Service and to book your appointment. Each of our Centres has partnered with a local solicitor to give you the option to write your will for free in the Centre.

You can call us on 0300 123 1801, or email enquiries@maggiescentres.org to find out more about your local Centre and how a gift in your Will could make a difference.

How to leave a gift in your Will

There are many different factors to take into account when writing a Will, here are a couple of important things to consider:

  • Make sure it's legal: We recommend using a solicitor to write or update your Will. If you are looking for a solicitor in your local area, you can find one by contacting the Law Society. If you are in England or Wales please visit www.lawsociety.org.uk or, if you are in Scotland, go to www.lawscot.org.uk
  • Include our details: So that your money goes to the right place, make sure you include our full name, address and registered charity number: Maggie's Centres, The Stables, Western General Hospital, Crewe Road, Edinburgh EH4 2XU. Registered Charity Number (SC024414).

For more tips on writing your Will please download our 'How to word your gift' guide and our Frequently Asked Questions to find information about choosing executors, finding professional help with Will writing and what might happen if you don’t make a Will.

Updating your Will

You may need to revisit your Will from time to time to make sure it still meets your needs. If you want to include a gift to Maggie's, all you need to do is make a codicil (an amendment) to your Will.

Choose the gift that's right for you

We are so grateful for every legacy gift we receive. Here are a couple of options for the type of gift you can make:

  • A share of your estate: Giving a percentage share of your estate once all other legacies and expenses have been settled. This is the most valuable type of gift as it retains its value over time. This is called a 'residuary gift'.
  • A fixed sum of money: It can be any amount from a few pounds to thousands of pounds. This is called a 'pecuniary gift'.
