Maggie's Barts

Help us build Maggie's Barts

Maggie’s and St Bartholomew's Hospital are working in partnership to create cancer support of the highest quality for patients and families across the seven London boroughs which refer cancer patients to the hospital. With 5,500 new cancer diagnoses a year at Barts there is a vital need to provide cancer support of the highest quality. We anticipate that construction of the Centre will begin this spring and that the Centre will receive over 20,000 visits per year once opened.

The Centre plan

We have commissioned leading architect Steven Holl to design the Centre. Holl was selected for his expertise in designing contemporary buildings to complement historic surroundings.

The site plan

Barts NHS Trust chose the site for Maggie's that would make the Centre most effective, close to the Oncology ward and with easy access to the hospital entrance.

About the proposed Centre

A three-storey "urban townhouse", the new Centre has been designed to an exceptionally high quality and will be full of open space and light created through a layering of materials. The exterior works in harmony with the interior and has been very carefully thought out – allowing natural light to wash over the floors and walls, ever changing through the natural daylight pattern of the seasons. A new garden has been designed by Darren Hawkes.
