Maggie's at The Royal Marsden

Help us build Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden

The Royal Marsden treats 50,000 patients a year, in its hospitals in Chelsea, London and Sutton, Surrey. Many of these patients will face tough questions, exhausting treatment and difficult emotions that can range from anxiety to loneliness and isolation. These challenges affect not only those with cancer, but their family and friends too.

The opening of Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden will allow Maggie’s to extend its support even further across London, which sees over 28,000 cancer diagnoses a year. There are currently two Maggie’s Centres in London, one built within the grounds of Charing Cross Hospital in Hammersmith - Maggie’s West London - with another Maggie’s at Barts Hospital in North East London, which opened in November 2017.

Working in partnership with The Royal Marsden – a world-leading cancer centre specialising in cancer diagnosis, treatment, research and education – the new Maggie’s Centre will further enhance the patient care on offer at The Royal Marsden, marking another step forward in the redevelopment of The Royal Marsden’s Sutton site.

About the proposed Centre

Maggie’s at The Royal Marsden will be designed by London-based studio Ab Rogers Design, with landscaping by world-renowned landscape architect Piet Oudolf.

The Centre will be there for anyone and everyone affected by cancer, offering an enhanced and unique evidence-based programme of support delivered in an uplifting, non-clinical environment.

The site plan

The Maggie’s Centre will be built in the grounds of The Royal Marsden, a peaceful place for people to drop in during and after treatment.

The Centre plan

The new Centre will be at the heart of a natural landscape within the hospital grounds surrounded by a number of existing mature trees.

The Centre has been developed by Ab Rogers Design (ARD) from the inside out and focuses on creating the best visitor experience possible; internal courtyard gardens will provide both communal and private spaces, the building will be flooded with natural light with plentiful views over the beautiful gardens.

“Treating people with cancer is not just about treating their disease. At The Royal Marsden, we treat the whole person – their physical, emotional and psychological needs. A Maggie’s Centre at The Royal Marsden in Sutton will enable us to extend the level of non-clinical support in a beautiful environment and to benefit many of our patients.”

Cally Palmer, Chief Executive of The Royal Marsden

If for any reason the Maggie’s at the Royal Marsden campaign raises insufficient funds in the expected timeframe then we will continue to fundraise until our target is reached. If the campaign target is exceeded, we will use any additional funds to deliver our cancer care programme in the new centre.
