Robyn Volkers

Centre Head

I am proud to have been part of Maggie’s since 2010 and make use of my varied experience, gained from many years of cancer nursing in different settings, to offer our programme of cancer information and support, tailored to meet the individual needs of everyone that comes into the centre.

I have a longstanding interest in the quality and availability of information for people affected by cancer. Alongside being Centre Head for Maggie’s at the Royal Free I am Head of Online Cancer Support at Maggie’s.

I am responsible for the overall running of Maggie's Online Community, the cancer information on our website and also the library and cancer information booklet lists used across our centres.

Debbie Coats

Cancer Support Specialist

I welcome visitors to the centre and make sure they have the chance to talk about any needs or worries. Maggie’s offers an amazing programme of courses and activities to help people affected by cancer. I help people to find the aspects that will be most useful to them. I meet people one-to-one to give information and support, and also facilitate support groups, workshops, and courses.

My background is in cancer nursing and giving information to people affected by cancer. I am also experienced in meditation, mindfulness, and visualisation. It is wonderful to be able to give everyone the time and space that they need to cope with difficult circumstances and to provide such a range of information, and emotional and social support.

The best thing about my job is seeing how much visitors gain and benefit from the services, support and therapies that the centre provides.

Maggie’s ethos of providing much needed information and social and emotional support in a beautiful, caring environment really appealed to me. It is a privilege to be able to help people in this way.

Maggie's is important because it can help people to find their own ways of coping with difficult circumstances and to really empower them to live well with cancer.

Evonne Barrow

Cancer Support Specialist

I offer cancer support and advice to our visitors and help them find the right information for their individual circumstances. I also run various support groups and workshops.

I am a qualified therapy radiographer and joined the Maggie's team in 2018 at our centre at Barts hospital before moving over to the Royal Free.

I've seen first hand how much Maggie's makes a difference to the lives of families living with cancer. When my brother was diagnosed with incurable cancer the support we both received from Maggie’s was amazing and really made such a difference.

It makes me so proud to be a part of an organisation that provides the support people so desperately need.

Cancer Support Specialist

A fundamental part of my role is welcoming and caring for the centre visitors and their families. I provide emotional support on the telephone, in person and via email to people who are affected by cancer. I also assist in the organisation and coordination of complementary therapies and other activities in the centre.

Brooke Parsons

Centre Fundraising Manager

I manage the fundraising team and our role is to raise vital funds to ensure that we can continues to offer our programme of cancer support to our visitors.

We aim to increase the amount of money we raise each year to help the cancer support services grow and allow us to help even more people living with cancer, their friends and families.

The team and I raise funds in a number of ways including; corporate partnerships, trusts and foundations, events and much more! If you’d like to support Maggie’s Royal Free I’d love to hear from you.

The best thing about my job is building strong long-lasting relationships with centre visitors, volunteers, the local community and donors of the centre.

I love how varied my role can be – one day I’m organising a fundraising concert and the next I’m delivering an assembly to a local school! It’s a joy watching people reach and exceed their targets.

Christelle Bonda

Centre Fundraising Organiser

I help raise both funds and awareness of our centre. I do this by helping to organise fundraising events in the centre and in the community. I also meet with visitors in the centre who would like to get involved in fundraising or volunteering.

I love that my role is based in the centre and so I get to see the impact of the work we are doing every day. The centre has such a welcoming environment and it’s so inspiring to work with an incredibly dedicated team who are supporting people affected by cancer through such a difficult time, and it’s a pleasure to meet with individuals, local companies and groups who want to help us continue to do so.

From yoga, benefits advice, counselling and art therapy to simply having a quiet place to sit with a cup of tea, Maggie’s is special because of its flexible and varied level of support to its visitors.
