Creative writing is a way to explore thoughts, ideas and emotions that you might otherwise find difficult to express, with no skill or experience required.

The creative writing exercises can help you to slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Feelings that you might find difficult to put into words can be more easily expressed through metaphors and stories. As a process, writing can help you to learn to understand your feelings, which may help to build your confidence.

Managing Stress Course

Managing Stress is a six-week course for anyone who has, or has had, cancer, and their families and friends.

The course introduces different methods of relaxation including: controlling anxious thoughts, meditation, visualisation and ‘quick’ or emergency relaxation.

You will be given handouts and a relaxation CD so you can practice your stress management techniques at home and learn to draw on these techniques at times of pressure and anxiety.

Our Cancer Support Specialist can offer advice on how to incorporate what you’ve learnt into your daily life after the course has finished.

Where Now? is a seven-week course for anyone who has finished their cancer treatment, as well as their friends and family. It offers skills and techniques to support you through this transition period and beyond.

Where Now? helps you manage the physical, emotional and practical issues you may face after your treatment has finished, through a series of group sessions each lasting around three hours.

Each session is led by a Cancer Support Specialist and a Clinical Psychologist and offers the chance to explore key issues and concerns alongside other people in a similar situation.

Discussions during the course focus on the following topics:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Managing post-treatment challenges
  • Partnering with your medical team
  • Keeping up momentum

Eating well during and after cancer treatment can make a real difference to the way you feel. Our nutrition workshops introduce you to types of food that are particularly good for you – and tasty ways to enjoy them.

The workshops also cover treatment-related eating challenges, and offer the chance to ask questions about your own diet.

You will be given a booklet on eating well, a selection of inspiring recipes and recommendations for websites to help you eat healthy, delicious meals.

The workshops are open to people with cancer and their families and friends.
