On Sunday 25 August the Gillian Parsons Memorial Golf Day returns for its 14th year!
The Golf Day was established by Shona Hutchison in 2005 as a tribute to her sister Gillian who was a visitor to Maggie's before she died.
To date, the golf day has raised a magnificent sum, over £102k for Maggie's Fife, and the event goes from strength to strength. There are now up to 30 teams of 4 participating.
The emphasis at the event is for all to have a fabulous day out in a fun competition, though organisers ensure the golf is taken seriously.
A loyal band of volunteers on the day makes the golfers day out a real pleasure and they have perfected the art of emptying wallets for the various raffles, draws, auctions and prizes so generously donated by many individuals and businesses.
Dunnikier Golf Club has been an excellent venue and the relaxed and welcoming atmosphere in the clubhouse contributes greatly to the day out.
Dave Foster, who from this year will head up the organisation of the event in conjunction with Shona, says:
This is my favourite charity golf day with the participants arriving in competitive mood, but recognising the aim is to raise a large sum for Maggies Fife - something they have always managed to achieve.
As a volunteer at Maggie's Fife I can see first hand how the centre provides much needed support and assistance to those with cancer and their family and friends. It is an inspiring place to be, and the golf day helps maintain the support for many people in need.
