Being diagnosed with cancer can often cause a great deal of anxiety, distress and emotional turmoil.

For many, treatment will be offered, and eventually some sort of ‘new normal’ takes place, and the fear of the cancer returning eases. However, what happens if cancer comes back or spreads? How do you cope this time around?

This weekly Secondary cancer support group is for those who have a secondary cancer that is being managed but no longer contained within the original site. Like all our groups it's a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family.

This is a drop in group, so if you'd like to come along, there's no need to book.

This support group is facilitated by our Cancer Support Specialist and is open to young women, aged 20-45, who are going through cancer treatment or who have recently completed treatment.

Every group provides an opportunity to talk to other people who are in a similar situation to you, and to share experiences. Groups offer a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family. You might learn from those a little way ahead of you in their journey and develop your own strategies for coping.

Support beyond treatment.

'Where Now' is a six-week course for anyone who has finished their cancer treatment. It offers skills and techniques to support you through this transition period and beyond.

Where Now? helps you manage the physical, emotional and practical issues you may face after your treatment has finished, through a series of group sessions each lasting around three hours. Each session is led by a Cancer Support Specialist and our Psychologist and offers the chance to explore key issues and concerns alongside other people in a similar situation.

Discussions during the course focus on the following topics:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Managing post-treatment challenges
  • Partnering with your medical team

A cancer diagnosis gives rise to so many physical and emotional challenges which may continue well beyond treatment for the person experiencing cancer, and their family and friends. Mindfulness is an approach to meeting these challenges.

Mindfulness practise invites you to bring your attention to the present moment with an intention of acceptance, paying attention to thoughts and feelings without judging them, without believing there is a right or wrong way to think in any given moment.

These practises have the intention of teaching people practical skills that can be incorporated into daily life, and which can help manage physical and psychological health problems. With practise, these skills can allow us to navigate ongoing challenges in life with calmness, clarity, curiosity, compassion and resilience.

This session is for people with cancer and their family and friends and led by our Cancer Support Specialists and Psychologist.
