Group support is available for people with any type of cancer and their friends and families: before, during or after treatment.

Every group provides an opportunity to talk to other people who are in a similar situation to you, and to share experiences. Groups offer a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family. You might learn from those a little way ahead of you in their journey and develop your own strategies for coping.

Support Groups are led by a psychologist and NHS staff and focus on the emotional impact of cancer.

*Please note there is no group in December*

Expressive art is a way to explore your feelings – particularly those which can be difficult to put into words – with no skill or experience required.

Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. And by doing that you may begin to understand more what you’re feeling, which can help to build your confidence.

Mindfulness

Mindfulness

Group session
Weekly
Drop in

A cancer diagnosis gives rise to so many physical and emotional challenges which may continue well beyond treatment for the person experiencing cancer, and their family and friends. Mindfulness is an approach to meeting these challenges.

Mindfulness practise invites you to bring your attention to the present moment with an intention of acceptance, paying attention to thoughts and feelings without judging them, without believing there is a right or wrong way to think in any given moment.

These practises have the intention of teaching people practical skills that can be incorporated into daily life, and which can help manage physical and psychological health problems. With practise, these skills can allow us to navigate ongoing challenges in life with calmness, clarity, curiosity, compassion and resilience.

This session is for people with cancer and their family and friends and led by our Cancer Support Specialists and Psychologist.
