For women, the menopause is part of life and because of this it is not always talked about. For some women their treatment causes the menopause and is simply seen as a side effect. At Maggie’s we believe that women should be given the chance to discuss their menopausal symptoms, concerns and find out what help is available. The opportunity to sit and talk with other women and share experiences is something that can be therapeutic.
We recently held a menopause workshop that allowed women to come together, talk, learn and also look at samples of products that may be useful.
The workshop was taken by a doctor who specialises in sexual health and one of our Cancer Support Specialists. The workshop allowed us to talk frankly about these issues, which can be minimised by other people. Both the opportunity to explore the symptoms of menopause and the support from the rest of the group enabled us to have an informative and practical discussion. The women left feeling that they were not alone, and also with ideas of what to do next.
Due to the success of this workshop we are planning another one on Wednesday 28 June 2pm-4pm.
