We know that singing as a group can be great fun, but there's also evidence to suggest that singing has a range of physical and emotional health benefits too.

With this in mind, the Maggie’s Lanarkshire singing group was born. The choir meet weekly, bringing together people affected by cancer in a warm, relaxed and safe environment.

Group support for people who have experienced bereavement due to cancer.

Every group provides an opportunity to talk to other people who are in a similar situation to you, and to share experiences. Groups offer a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family. You might learn from those a little way ahead of you in their journey and develop your own strategies for coping.

Support Groups are led by a psychologist and focus on the emotional impact of cancer.

Living with less stress

Living with less stress

Living with less stress is a six-week course for anyone who has, or has had, cancer, and their families and friends.

The course introduces different methods of relaxation including: controlling anxious thoughts, meditation, visualisation and ‘quick’ or emergency relaxation.

You will be given handouts and a relaxation CD so you can practice your stress management techniques at home and learn to draw on these techniques at times of pressure and anxiety.

Our Cancer Support Specialist can offer advice on how to incorporate what you’ve learnt into your daily life after the course has finished.

Where Now?

Where Now? is a seven-week course for anyone who has finished their cancer treatment, as well as their friends and family. It offers skills and techniques to support you through this transition period and beyond.

Where Now? helps you manage the physical, emotional and practical issues you may face after your treatment has finished, through a series of group sessions each lasting around three hours. Each session is led by a Cancer Support Specialist and a Clinical Psychologist and offers the chance to explore key issues and concerns alongside other people in a similar situation.

Discussions during the course focus on the following topics:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Managing post-treatment challenges
  • Partnering with your medical team
  • Keeping up momentum
