Group support is available for people with any type of cancer and their friends and families: before, during or after treatment.

Every group provides an opportunity to talk to other people who are in a similar situation to you, and to share experiences. Groups offer a safe space to express emotions you might not want to share with your friends and family. You might learn from those a little way ahead of you in their journey and develop your own strategies for coping.

Support Groups are led by a psychologist and focus on the emotional impact of cancer.

There are over 50,000 people with cancer working across the UK. This figure is expected to double by 2030 as more people survive a diagnosis of cancer. In seeking to return to work, employees, their managers and colleagues each face different and complex challenges that can have a significant impact in the workplace.

Maggie's Newcastle are offering a workshop to help your managers support colleagues affected by cancer. The workshop will be facilitated by our expert Centre staff and is tailored to meet the needs of your workforce.

What the workshop covers

  • Types of cancer and treatment
  • Impacts of a cancer diagnosis
  • Challenges in the workplace
  • Supporting an individual's return to work

Rebecca Walters, Health and Well Being Manager at Admiral Insurance Group said,

'An emotional but insightful visit to Maggie's enabled us to learn more about not only the emotional but practical and social support the Centre offers. The relaxed 'at home' feel allows us to confidently signpost those affected by cancer to the Centre reassured they will get the support they need.'

Cancer affects more than just your health.

There are also financial implications, such as lost income and increased costs, as well as heating and travel, making it easy to lose track of your finances. Managing your financial and legal affairs can be a huge added stress during any period of illness or uncertainty, and this is something that can easily be remedied with the advice or guidance of a qualified solicitor.

We're delighted to add a financial planning session to our programme, during which we'll examine Lasting Power of Attorney, Wills, conduct Will reviews and look at inheritance tax planning.

This is a one-to-one session, so you'll need to contact the Centre to book a time slot.
