Meet Emily, Oscar, Flynn, Sophie & Emma.
Last June this ‘Dream Team’ took on a massive two peak challenge, climbing Scafell and Snowdon. All this in just one weekend, not to mention raising a phenomenal £6583 for Maggie's!
Emily’s Mum, Andrea, was diagnosed with Breast Cancer in 2017 and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. She found support here at Maggie’s.
Rick, Emily’s Dad, tells us a bit more…
It was a shock when Andrea was diagnosed and totally out of blue. Emily visited Maggie’s with her Mum and after seeing what a fantastic place it is, and realising how much the support from Maggie’s meant to her Mum, she wanted to do something to say thank you to them.
I had to rein Emily in on wanting to take on three peaks, we compromised on two! We did a lot of training but most of it was in lovely sunny, warm weather but typically for us, the weekend of our challenge in June, the weather was torrential!
We just weren’t prepared for it. The rain was driving into our faces the whole time. We had no dry clothes. We were camping in the wind and rain. It was honestly like going to hell and back.
If we had been doing it for any other reason we would have got back in the van and driven home. But Emily just kept thinking of why she was doing it and it kept her and the others going.
We met Andrea at the top of Snowdon and it was all pretty emotional, especially when she saw the state of the kids and heard about what they’d been through. Everyone was just so happy and pleased they’d done it. It was an incredible feeling.
I don't think the kids realise how big a deal this is. For them to have done it in those conditions, it was a testament to the kids’ immense attitude. We are so proud of what they have achieved.
We are all so grateful for the support that everyone at Maggie’s has given to Andrea. Cancer affects so many people and Maggie's does so much to help them. We hope that our fundraising helps many more people get the support they need at Maggie’s.
What complete superstars! We simply can't thank Emily and her family and friends enough for everything they've done for Maggie's.
As you know Maggie’s relies solely on the support and generosity of others, so if you think you can help Maggie’s this year by doing some fundraising of your own, from taking on your own two peak challenge to cooking up a storm at a bake sale, just give Laura or Tom a call on 0161 989 0550 for a chat.
Your help will help us to make sure that Maggie’s support is available to everyone who needs it this year, next year and in the years to come.
