Meet Richard (Dad), Mark and Emma. Philippa, their loving wife and mum, was diagnosed with breast cancer and passed away in May 2018. Philippa and her family found support here at Maggie’s.
Since losing Philippa the family have made it their mission to help us to help more people at Maggie’s. They’ve raised a remarkable £4,350 through donations in memory of Philippa at her funeral, Mark took one for the team and ran the London Marathon (!), and they got all of Philippa’s friends and family together for a quiz and afternoon tea.
My Mum was incredibly well-loved and popular. She meant so much to so many people. Mum loved meeting new people and seemed to make friends wherever she went. Often you would look round to see that mum had disappeared, only to find her deep in conversation with a complete stranger.
The same applied after she was diagnosed with cancer. She started going to Maggie's, where she not only received incredible support herself, but also went out of her way to befriend and support others through their own journeys.
Throughout her treatment, mum's weekly visits to Maggie's were always something she looked forward to, thanks to the caring and dedicated staff and volunteers. The centre was a huge support and made a big difference not only to mum but also to myself, Emma and our Dad, who have also been helped personally.
Thank you to the amazing Shales family for their incredible support of Maggie’s and for being so thoughtful and generous to help us to help more people during this difficult time for the family. You’re all truly wonderful.
