While a diagnosis of cancer can be very complex and challenging, there are many things a person can do to improve their general wellbeing and to help them regain a sense of control.

The workshop aims to help people understand cancer and the treatments available, as well as potential side effects, how to manage them and how to look after themselves. Knowing what is ahead can often help to reduce anxiety and uncertainty.

Getting Started with Cancer Treatment can help people take an active role in their treatment and recovery, and give them a chance to ask questions and share experiences with people who understand what they’re going through. There will be an opportunity to learn about managing stress, staying active, eating well and finding support. In addition, it is also a chance to hear about the rest of the programme of support available at Maggie’s Oxford.

The workshop will be facilitated by a medical professional from the hospital along with one of our Cancer Support Specialists.

Our yoga sessions offer the opportunity for gentle restorative exercise and stretching to help build general fitness and resilience. No previous experience is necessary and equipment is provided.

Evidence shows that exercise offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving your wellness and physical fitness, to building your confidence during and after cancer treatment.

Wear casual comfy clothing.

Where Now? Support beyond treatment

Where Now? Support beyond treatment

Where Now? is a six-week course for anyone who has finished their cancer treatment, as well as their friends and family. It offers skills and techniques to support you through this transition period and beyond.

Where Now? helps you manage the physical, emotional and practical issues you may face after your treatment has finished, through a series of group sessions each lasting around three hours. Each session is led by a Cancer Support Specialist and a Clinical Psychologist and offers the chance to explore key issues and concerns alongside other people in a similar situation.

Discussions during the course focus on the following topics:

  • Exercise
  • Healthy eating
  • Emotional wellbeing
  • Managing post-treatment challenges
  • Partnering with your medical team
  • Keeping up momentum

Relaxation will be guided by talking you through focusing on breathing, connecting with the body and then continuing with a beautiful visualisation.

We are a drop-in CRAFT group which meets every Tuesday 10am – 12 noon

The group is for anyone affected by cancer, plus friends & family, volunteers and fundraisers – anyone with an interest in craft.

Expressive art is a way to explore your feelings – particularly those which can be difficult to put into words – with no skill or experience required.

Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. And by doing that you may begin to understand more about what you’re feeling, which can help to build your confidence.
