The expressive art group offers a way to explore your feelings — particularly those which can be difficult to put into words — no skill in art or experience is required.

Concentrating on creating art can help you slow down, relax and process your thoughts. Your unconscious mind can express feelings through pictures, colours and shapes that you might struggle to put into words. By doing that you may begin to understand more of what you’re feeling, which can help to build your confidence.

All sessions are tailored to people with cancer and are flexible to suit your own needs. They can also provide a chance to talk to people going through a similar experience to you.

Evidence shows that exercise offers many benefits, from reducing fatigue and improving your wellness and physical fitness to building your confidence during and after cancer treatment.

Many people living with cancer can have difficulty getting a good quality night's sleep on a regular basis. Most people will have experienced a night of poor sleep but having a diagnosis of cancer for yourself or someone you are caring for can increase sleeping difficulties.

We all know how much better we feel after having restful sleep but if you are having difficulties sleeping well on a regular basis, what can be done to improve it?

Our sleep workshop can give you the tools to achieve:

  • more sleep
  • more satisfying and quality sleep
  • more restorative sleep, and waking up feeling more rested and able to cope with the day
  • more reliable sleep, and developing more of a sleep pattern
  • more calmness at night — reducing worries at nighttime.

No matter how sleep problems are affecting you, this workshop may be the help you need.

Men's Group

This group is for men who have been diagnosed with cancer. The group will involve 60 minutes of facilitated group support with our Psychologist, Mark, followed by a 60 minute exercise session with our Personal Trainer, Carolyn. 

This group is suitable for those who are newly diagnosed, going through treatment and those who have completed treatment. This is a drop-in group so you do not need to book to attend.

An opportunity to meet other people with lung cancer and discuss the challenges thoughts and feelings that surround this diagnosis. This group will be facilitated by a clinical nurse specialist and a cancer support specialist.

This is a drop-in group and will run on the third Wednesday of every month.

Mindfulness is a way of helping you develop your skills in concentration and focusing on the here and now. It aims to increase your awareness of how you think, feel and cope in life. When developing this skill an opening can be created to learn to deal with stress differently.

Our mindfulness practice sessions usually run the third Wednesday of each month.

Nordic Walking — Advanced

Nordic walking is a great way for people to get their entire body moving and it helps to improve overall fitness. It's particularly good for upper body strength.

With the Thames Path so close to the centre our nordic walkers head there for the hour-long class. Walkers have found it a really enjoyable experience, both for health and wellbeing but also as an informal peer support session.

Join us for our radiotherapy information evening.

The evening will include:

  • Opportunity to meet radiotherapists and ask questions
  • A tour of the radiotherapy department
  • Demonstration of a treatment machine and how it works
  • 3D representation of a treatment plan
