Maggie's Yorkshire Receives Planning Permission

We are delighted to announce that we have received final planning permission to build the new Maggie’s Centre in the grounds of St James’s Hospital in Leeds, which will provide support to anyone affected by cancer across Yorkshire.

With this fantastic news, and having raised over the £5million, we are looking forward to starting the build of the new Centre before the end of the year.

Maggie’s Yorkshire has been designed by Heatherwick Studio, one of Britain’s most innovative design practices. Heatherwick Studio’s work includes the award-winning UK Pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo 2010, the Olympic Cauldron for the London 2012 Olympic Games, and the New Bus for London. We are also working with award-winning landscape designer Marie-Louise Agius of Balston Agius who is designing the surrounding gardens, which are so important in helping to create a calm and uplifting environment in each of Maggie’s Centres.

Martin Jenkins, Chairman of Maggie’s Yorkshire Campaign Board, “This is a really exciting time for the campaign. We have been working hard to get to this point and we could not be happier to have reached the stage where we can let the contracts for construction. We are so grateful for all the support we have received which has enabled us to get to this far, and we are now looking forward to the building work commencing before the end of the year.
