2. Data Protection

Data obtained from you via SMS service may include your mobile number, your carrier’s name and the date, the time and content of your messages and other information that you may provide.

Your data will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 1998 and will only be used to keep you informed about our fundraising, activities, events and services. We will not share your information with any third party organisations except where such transfer is a necessary part of our activities, or we are required to do so by operation of law. View our Privacy Policy.

3. Donating by SMS

3.1 How much of my donation reaches Maggie’s?

If you have sent a text to make a £3 donation, texts will be charged at £3 plus one message at your standard network rate; the charge will show on your bill and the sender will show as a five-digit number, not Maggie’s. 100% of your donation will go to Maggie’s.

3.2 Gift Aid

Your donation may be eligible for Gift Aid. We may contact you on the mobile number you used to give you the opportunity to add Gift Aid to your donation. If we send you a link to a page where you can submit your details then, as with any mobile browsing, you may incur charges from your network provider. If we ask you to text those details, then a standard network message charge (based on your service provider rates) will be incurred.

3.3 Donation limit protection

There is no limit on the number of times you may make a donation via text but there is a daily limit of £30 on text donations. You will not be able to donate more by text from the same number on the same day, but you may still incur your standard network message charge if you try.

3.4 International texts

Please note that you can donate from a UK mobile only. You cannot donate using this service from a Channel Islands, Isle of Man or other non-UK mobile. If you donate using this service from a UK mobile outside England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland, you may incur additional network charges.

4. Monthly Mobile donations

If you choose to support Maggie’s with a regular gift through your mobile, you’ll be part of monthly subscription service where you will receive a free monthly SMS from Maggie’s the day before your gift is due.

4.1 Signing up

When you sign up to give regularly through your mobile, you’ll need to reply to the first message that we send you to activate your gift. Once you have responded to this text, your gift will be activated and your first donation of £3 will be either added to your phone bill or taken immediately from your pay-as-you-go credit. You’ll be charged £3 plus one standard rate text message in the first month.

Every month, if you’re happy to give you don’t need to do anything and you’ll be charged £3.

Maggie’s will receive 100% of your donation.

4.2 Skipping a donation

If you’d like to skip a month, simply respond SKIP to the five digit shortcode that you received your monthly message from. You’ll be charged one standard rate text message. If your phone is out of range or switched off, you don’t need to worry. We’ll only take your gift 24 hours after we know that your phone has received our message.

4.3 Text updates: News and what your support means

We want you to see how your gifts are helping, so we’ll sometimes send you links to photos and videos on our website or information about our work. You can view this content on an internet-enabled phone or computer. We won’t charge you for content but, as with any mobile browsing, viewing could mean you incur charges from your network provider.

4.4 Stopping your gift

If you’d like to stop your gift at any point, please text STOP to the five digit shortcode that you receive your monthly messages from. You’ll be charged one standard rate text message. By texting STOP this means you will no longer receive any future monthly SMS from Maggie’s.
